Multi-Chat

You're midway through a deep research session when a quick unrelated question pops into your head. With most AI assistants, you'd either interrupt the conversation and lose your train of thought, or open a second app window and start from scratch. Neither option is great.

Meggy's Multi-Chat lets you run as many independent conversations as you need — each with its own history, its own context, and its own optional vault folder. Switch between them from the sidebar, and every chat picks up exactly where you left off.

How It Works

The sidebar is your command center for conversations. Every desktop chat appears in a recency-sorted list — the one you used most recently sits at the top.

Creating a New Chat

There are two ways to start a fresh conversation:

A new empty chat appears at the top of the list, ready to go. You can have as many chats open as you like — there's no limit.

Auto-Title

Nobody wants a sidebar full of "New Chat" entries. When you start talking, Meggy automatically generates a short, descriptive title from the first exchange. A research session about climate data becomes "Climate Data Sources", a grocery planning chat becomes "Weekly Groceries".

Auto-title runs once per conversation, using a lightweight model so it's fast and unobtrusive. You can rename any chat manually if the generated title doesn't fit.

Searching Conversations

As your list grows, use the search bar at the top of the sidebar to filter conversations by title. It's a simple substring match — type a keyword and only matching chats are shown.

Per-Chat Vault Binding

Each conversation can optionally bind to a vault folder. When bound, the AI automatically has access to the documents in that folder during the chat — no need to re-upload files or explain context each time.

Setup What Happens
No binding Standard chat — the AI uses general knowledge and tools
Bound to a folder The AI has automatic access to all documents in that vault folder

This is powerful for project-based workflows. Bind your "Tax Returns" chat to the tax documents folder, your "Novel Draft" chat to your manuscript folder, and each conversation has the right context without any manual setup.

To bind a vault folder, select one from the vault picker when starting or editing a chat.

Managing Conversations

Deleting a Chat

Click the trash icon on any conversation to start the delete flow. A confirmation step appears — click the checkmark to confirm or the X to cancel. Deleting a chat removes all its messages permanently.

There's one safety rule: you can't delete the last remaining desktop chat. Meggy always keeps at least one conversation available so you're never locked out.

Clearing Messages

Sometimes you want to keep a conversation but start fresh. Type /clear in any chat to delete all messages from that conversation. The chat itself remains in the sidebar with its title and vault binding intact — only the message history is wiped.

First Launch

When you install Meggy or start with a fresh database, a default "New Chat" conversation is created automatically. You're immediately ready to start talking — no setup steps needed.
